Matthew Shepard

Even though it was such a long time ago, this story is still just so very sad. It was the first hate crime that I had ever heard of and is the reason I am so passionate about stopping gay bullying.

Clint McCance apologizes and says he will resign from school board.

Clint McCance apology

What an absolutely pathetic apology! He isn’t sorry, he is just sorry he got caught! If he really didn’t believe in what he said then he wouldn’t have said it. I have no respect for his apology and I’m extremely grateful that he is resigning from the school board.  In this video he states that he is not the monster he’s been made out to be, wrong! I’d say anyone who makes such ignorant comments and says such awful heartrending things is a monster.
Though I’m truly upset he has made these comments I DO NOT commend the death threats he and his family have been getting. We are upset that he said he wanted people to take their lives and that he wanted people to die, so let’s not mock the fact that we don’t believe in such statements by sending him death threats and making basically that same mistake that he did. In my last post I stated that I wanted all people named Clint McCance to commit suicide and I didn’t mean that at all. As I’m sure most of you know I simply was trying to make a point by asking him how he would feel if it was said about him. None of us want anyone to commit suicide or feel bad because someone said something like that, and that is exactly the point I was trying to make. But looking back on the statement I wanted to clarify that up for everyone so that there was no chance of it being taken the wrong way.
Also the parents of Asher Brown one of the victims of suicide due to gay bullying were in these videos. I think that they dealt with McCance’s statements with grace and showed him much compassion. I feel just absolutely terrible for them. I can’t imagine having to go through something so traumatic and I wish the best for them!

Board member of the Arkansas Department of Education makes anti-gay comments on facebook

Some of you may have heard about the Vice President of the Arkansas Department of Education (Clint McCance) writing anti-gay things on his facebook page. It is reported that he used the terms “queer” and “fag” throughout his post. He also said he wanted gay people to commit suicide and said he would disown his children if they were gay. He stated that he enjoys “the fact that gay people often give each other AIDS and die”

On “sprit day” a day were people wore purple in remembrance of the 5 who had committed suicide he reportedly wrote "Seriously they want me to wear purple because five queers committed suicide. The only way im wearin it for them is if they all commit suicide. I cant believe the people of this world have gotten this stupid. We are honoring the fact that they sinned and killed therselves because of their sin.” We’re trying to stop gay bullying yet we have a bully working in our own schools. How could the school board have over looked something like this when they were in the hiring process? His actions were just hateful and disgusting, and personally I hope he is fired from the board of education. He doesn’t deserve to have a job working with children when he could possibly be endangering them. Who knows how many of the gay students that he has harassed and bullied?

How could anyone even say that they would disown their children if they were gay. If he found out his children were gay would he tell them to go kill themselves? This man isn’t even fit to be a parent! He is teaching his children hate and anger towards gays and we have already seen how much trouble and hurt anti-gay bullying can cause. What if the roles were reversed and someone who was gay posted on their facebook that they wanted straight people to commit suicide? I’m sure that McCance would be furious and say that their actions were hurtful and childish.

It absolutely pains me to see gay bullying and it’s even worse when it comes from someone who is supposed to make teens feel safe. When he posted this was he hoping gay people would read it and go commit suicide? He thinks that being gay is a sin but isn’t saying hurtful things to try and make someone want to kill themselves a sin to? Hey McCance you’re not so peachy perfect yourself! If you can say these kinds of things and think you’re the one doing the right thing then you’re obviously mixed up and need a serious wakeup call!

As I said before I hope he is shunned from the school board and can never work in a school or anywhere that people might have feelings. He obviously has way to much fun trying to hurt them. And I’ll end this post flipping the roles just for you McCance, I want all guys named Clint McCance to commit suicide. How does it feel to hear that about you?

I was asked my opinion on if the students who filmed Tyler Clementi should be charged with some sort of punishment. This was my answer.

When I heard this story I was heartbroken and horrified to say the least. This is a topic I’ve been trying to raise awareness on for quite some time now which is why I was so grateful to see that it was this week’s question of the week. When I was younger I heard a similar story to this and I have been passionate about this topic ever since.
I can only imagine how Tyler Clementi must have felt after discovering what should have been completely personal to him became a public event. The way those students treated him is heart dropping and disgusting! Maybe they thought it was just a practical joke and that it would be funny but a young college student who had his whole life in front of him is dead because of them. How could this be funny or human at all? Those who are gay should be treated no differently than those who are not but instead in way too many cases they are treated horrible as if they’re bad people. The humiliation he felt drove him to killing himself and a lot of people I know are acting like it’s not a big deal. How is this not a big deal?
I absolutely believe this was a hate crime and I believe those students should be charged without a doubt! It’s basically manslaughter in a somewhat different form. If they wouldn’t have invaded his privacy and purposely tried to ruin his life then he would still be alive today. The way that parents, churches and even communities treat people when they find out that they’re gay is shameful. What could be so important or matter so much that a young boy or young girl or anyone for that matter should feel like they have to kill themselves over.
I am disgusted with those who hate “gays” so much that they will go out of their way to make signs and protest just to make them feel like they don’t belong. I honestly couldn’t say enough to tell everyone how important this is. It’s this week’s topic and it’s going to be a topic for the rest of our lives if we don’t try to raise awareness for it now.  Gays are not treated equally and it’s so ridiculous that they’re not.
Social networking wasn’t made so that we could humiliate our classmates in the worse forms possible. People that do these kinds of things need to be charged with something to show that their actions have consequences. The people who are doing these online hate crimes aren’t young adolescent children who don’t know what they’re doing. They know that their actions will cause humiliation and pain and still they continue with it. To me this means they should be punished. The students that filmed Tyler knew what they were doing and maybe they didn’t know it would be the cause of his death but I’m pretty sure any average person would realize that it was wrong and that it would cause horrible problems in his life.
We all need to open our eyes and realize nothing as immature as the “fun” of online bullying is worth the death of anyone. I read in a news report that his classmates said it was a joke. What was the punch line? His death?

Our First Post!

Just recently within a 2 week period,  5 young  teens who were picked on for being gay committed suicide. We have always been quite passionate about this topic but when we heard this, we knew it was time for us to take a stand. We are hoping to create a strong foundation based on stopping all of the hate and gay bullying and spreading the word that such childish games are not worth having someone take their own life over.  Please always feel welcome on commenting and sharing your stories and opinions with us. Every one of us needs to take a stand and stop all of this gay bullying that has already caused such tragic endings to so many lives. If you ever have any questions or have something you would like us to feature on our site, please feel free to contact us at thegreenlightmotion@hotmail.com
Thanks!
